Mike went on from UI to complete his Masters at the University of Missouri in 1968 where he served as the school's first percussion teacher and began the program there. In the fall of 1968 he became the first full-time percussion teacher at the University of Tennessee and is currently Professor of Music at UT and Principal Timpanist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. In 1969 he married Eileen Hanson (bachelors and masters in music ed from UI). Although not still married, they have one daughter and two grandchildren - all living in Knoxville.

In addition to all the activities of running the U of T percussion program, Mike served a term as President of the Faculty Senate and had a wild time dealing with upper administration during a stormy period. The rest is all that boring stuff about higher education, so it's much more fun to spend time now trying to catch up with what the SA tour orchestra members are doing.
